The Hidden History of Fort Collins
The Hidden History of Fort Collins

Legends abound about early Fort Collins. Who has not heard of Aunty Stone, Jack Slade or Col. William O. Collins? Beyond these prominent people and their stories lie many lesser-known stories--about a small frontier town, holstered vigilantes and all; about brave men and women who faced almost insurmountable odds and survived, and about seemingly everyday lives that left footprints in our history. This city has a rich history left to us by strong, determined individuals who forged ahead regardless of obstacles, fed by their belief in a better future. Our history also has hundreds of entertaining tales that give us delightful glimpses into the past. Barbara Fleming will share some of these stories in her talk, “Hidden History of Fort Collins.”

Chocolate and How it is Made in Ft Collins
Chocolate and How it is Made in Ft Collins

Toby and Alix Gadd, co-founders of Nuance Chocolate, have been certified chocoholics for decades, even going on chocolate-tasting dates together over a decade ago.  Inspired after visiting a chocolate museum near Hone Creek in Costa Rica, their infatuation with eating chocolate developed into exploring the chemistry, flavors, and mysteries of making their own small-batch chocolate. What began as an all-consuming hobby quickly outgrew their home kitchen, blossoming into Nuance Chocolate—one of a small number of true bean-to-bar chocolate makers in the United States.

During the presentation, Toby will take the audience on a “Show and Smell” tour of how Nuance makes chocolate—right from raw beans, roasted and ground in Old Town Fort Collins

How and Why Colorado is Taking the Lead in Healthcare Price Transparency

Our speaker is leading the effort to enact truly transformation legislation by taking the matter of healthcare price transparency to voters in November. Colorado Ballot Initiative 146 would be the first law in the country requiring comprehensive price transparency in all aspects of healthcare. He will also address the economics of price transparency and why it is the lynchpin to all of the other improvements we need to see.
