Glen Eyrie at 150 years

This presentation will explore the history of the Glen Eyrie estate in Colorado Springs. We will learn about General William Jackson Palmer's early life, Civil War career, and his adventures establishing the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad,  Colorado Springs, and his home at Glen Eyrie in 1871. We will explore the natural and built environments of Glen Eyrie, examining the transformation of the property into the castle that we have today. The presentation will also look at subsequent owners of Glen Eyrie after Palmer's death in 1909, including a failed attempt at turning the property into a high-end subdivision.  We will also talk about the Navigators purchase of the property in 1953, and current opportunities for guests to visit Glen Eyrie.
