Summer is upon us!
Thank you, President Curtis Carlson!

An outgoing message from President Curtis:

I can’t believe I am already down to my final month as President. This year has really flown by. I remember my first meeting (which ran long of course) and thinking that this was going to be a really long year. Well thanks to tons of help from all of you, I feel like this year has gone very smoothly and we have accomplished a ton of great things. One item that we recently accomplished, and that I had a lot of positive feedback on was our recent Community Service Rotation Days.

This was a new twist on an event that we have been doing for years. I wanted to have one more community service project before the end of my year and I figured why not incorporate it into our Rotation Day format. We still got to enjoy fellowship with our fellow members and we helped out four fantastic non-profits in our community in the process. It was definitely a win/win. I have encouraged both PE Chris Coley and PEN Mike Hohl to continue these types of events during their tenures so hopefully you will all continue to participate in them.

The other item that has been a focus of my presidency has been membership. I really want to thank Mike Hohl for his efforts on this. He has put together a great committee and they have been following up on all potential members to see if they are a fit for our club. Based on the numbers that Mike has shared with me, I am confident that we will end the year with a net gain in membership. I really want to remind you all that if you have someone that is interested in joining our club, don’t forget out Evening Group as an option. They only meet twice a month, plus you get to drink a beer at their meetings, which is a huge selling point.

As always, thanks so much to all of you for your help & support in accomplishing all of these great things. It is because of you, our members, that we are able to accomplish so much. We have truly ‘Made a Difference’ in not only our community, but around the world.

President Curtis

Evening Club Update!

Update from the Evening Club:

We have run into some issues with the washer and dryer for Putnam Elementary School.   We have all the funds we need however school safety is the top priority for the school district right now.  Putnam is at the head of the list given the at-risk population they serve and the old age of the facilities.  Putnam will be given a thorough safety evaluation this Summer.  In the meantime, the District will not allow Putnam to add a washer/dryer to the school because they do not have a way to provide outside security for the washer room and between the washer room and the school.  I offered to raise funds to build secure doors.  Putnam proposed this to the District and was shut down until the security assessment is done.

So we hope to move forward later this Summer or Fall once the security issues are resolved but there is a chance it falls through.  Our contact at Putnam will be at the Evening Group meeting on May 29th to discuss alternatives and we hope to bring her to the Noon Club for an update in the near future.  In addition to the washer/dryer, we are working on the following with Putnam:

·         We are hoping to sponsor a leadership course for the 5th graders this Fall that will show them leadership examples and teach them the Rotary 4-way test.
·         We are going to set up a Book Trust day every two weeks at the school to help the kids with their reading skills.
·         The school is looking to build school pride by providing everyone a Putnam t-shirt.
·         We are working to provide school supplies to several of the classes.

Stay tuned for more updates as our work with Putnam evolves.

Cheers,
Scott
