He will explain that these ancient people were well organized, they were industrious, and they created sustainable villages. Sites that will discussed will include small storage reservoirs both on canyon bottoms and mesa tops where their pueblos were situated. Learn everything about Rotary that you didn't know you didn't know, and meet Rotarians from around your region to exchange ideas! Pssst ... you don't have to be an officer to attend, and attending doesn't sentence you to a leadership role in the near future. RLI believes that excellent CLUB leadership (all types of club leaders) is essential to the future of Rotary in a complex and fast changing world. Most Rotarians have not been exposed to the great scope of Rotary around the world nor had the opportunity to meet other Rotarians to discuss specific ways we can all move Rotary forward.
**If you've already attended, please personally invite a club member you believe would benefit from joining RLI. The overriding goal of the courses for club Rotarians is to create ENTHUSIASM for Rotary by opening up to them the world of Rotary outside of their own clubs and also showing them the great potential of Rotary service for the benefit of the world that can be furthered with excellent leadership in our clubs. Graduates of RLI bring a greatly enhanced background in Rotary when they serve in their club or represent Rotary in their community. |

The Presidential Election System and Current National Popular Vote Proposals
Jul 16, 2019
Robert wii be reviewing the Constitution's system for electing the president. Most people think of this as merely the Electoral College, but it actually is a three tier system: (1) Each state chooses its presidential electors, (2) they vote for president and vice president, and (3) if necessary, there is a run off election in the House of Representatives for the president and in the Senate for the Vice President.
He will examine current proposals to elect the president by a simply popular vote plurality, which would have the U.S. adopt a system currently used only in Third World countries.

Romance of the Rails: Why the Passenger Trains We Love Are Not the Transportation We Need
Jul 23, 2019
Americans love streetcars and passenger trains. But these modes of transportation were rendered obsolete more than 90 years ago, so they only operate today with gigantic subsidies. Randal O’Toole probably loves trains more than most, having helped restore a steam locomotive and even been an owner of railroad cars. But his review of history shows that they should be in museums and tourist lines, and will never make a satisfactory replacement for autos and airplanes. |

Hummingbirds
Sep 10, 2019
Knowing what food birds eat is critical for bird conservation efforts. Obtaining more specific data about bird food habits has been a passion of David Leatherman for many years. With high-resolution digital photography and a bit of luck, it is sometimes possible for specialists to identify insects to the species level and to capture information about the plants that sustain birds through the seasons. David Leatherman writes a column called The Hungry Bird in Colorado Birds, the journal of the Colorado Field Ornithologists. He is retired from the Colorado State Forest Service where he served as the forest entomologist, studying and conducting outreach about the Mountain Pine Beetle. He is a frequent speaker to bird and insect groups and plans to write a book, Life Among the Headstones, a summary of over 1700 visits to an old cemetery in Fort Collins. |

In the most recent statistics that have come out, the United States is now number 3 in the world for human trafficking. Only Mexico and the Philippines are ahead of us. Our focus at Global Connection International is to get out ahead of this problem and seek to fortify local communities from the threat by raising awareness and providing prevention tools to everyday American people and their families. We will talk about specific things that community members can do to make sure it never happens in their communities. |
