Craig Werner and Doug Bradley place the iconic music of the 1960s and early 1970s at the heart of the U. S. experience in Vietnam. Their presentation explores why U.S. troops turned to music as a way of connecting to each other and the World back home, and how music has helped them cope with the complexities of an unpopular war that they had to fight. Their talk also demonstrates that music was important for every group of Vietnam veterans—black and white, Latino and Native American; men and women; officers and “grunts.”

Front Range Passenger Rail (FRPR) is a proposed inter-city passenger train service along the Front Range and broader I-25 corridors in Colorado and Wyoming. The selected route runs from Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, South Metro (Littleton), Castle Rock, Colorado Springs to Pueblo. Proposals exist to extend the project northwards to Cheyenne in Wyoming and southwards to Trinidad and New Mexico. The Front Range Passenger Rail District is engaging community members along the corridor to share information, answer questions, and hear feedback from residents as the project advances. This outreach is part of the District’s statutory responsibility to conduct transparent public engagement before any potential future decisions are considered.

Our meeting will be held in the Longs Peak Student Center, East/West Conference Rooms.  Folks are welcome to show up at 11:30 a.m.  Parking is free and should be plentiful, since this event is towards the end of the semester.  President Colleen Simpson is our speaker. I have invited Academic Dean, Angie Peach, to attend our luncheon and facilitate an optional tour of our heath science programs in the Grays Peak building from 1:15 to 2 p.m.

On Saturday May 2nd, 2026 from 9:00am to 11:00amall four Fort Collins Rotary Clubs along with the CSU Rotaract will be coming out and helping at the CSU Environmental Learning Center located at 2400 S County Rd 9, Fort Collins, CO 80525 for ourRotaryEpic Day of Service.  There will be many areas in which you can volunteer to help prepare the center for their summer camps that help kids connect with the natural world.  This day of action is an opportunity for Rotarians, families, and friends to strengthen our community, and stand alongside millions of Rotary volunteers worldwide who are committed to doing good throughout the month of May.  Everyone is welcome. Show your Rotary spirit, if you have a Rotary t-shirt please wear it!

As told by one of the last Reconnaissance Systems Officers to fly operational missions in the Blackbird, the presentation will include interesting facts about how the SR was develop, its remarkable technical capabilities, and its speed and altitude records that stand today, thirty-six years after its retirement. To exemplify its capabilities, the presenter will provide an overview of a very unique, long-duration SR-71 mission that he had the privilege to fly in the Asian-Pacific theater - a mission that has significance to America's current involvement in the Middle East conflict.

Hunter will start the talk with what bobsled is and how it works. He will do a little behind the scenes of what the sled is like and the mechanics of pushing, driving, etc. He will cover what daily life looks like in season, what are all the stops that the team covers, and what training is like out of season. He will finish the talk with the story of his athletic journey from high school to competing in the Olympics and what plans he has for the future. If time permits, he will cover a few of the lessons he hase learned along the way.

On Monday May 18th, 2026from10:00am to 11:30amwe will be working on the Nappie Project at the Food Bank located at 1301 Blue Spruce Drive, Fort Collins CO. 80524.  Spaces are limited to 10 volunteers so sign up today!  Did you know that the Food Bank provides 60,000 diapers and wipes per month to families in our community?  This is a great opportunity to kick off a new initiative of supporting the Food Bank with their need for diapers and wipes.  Please let me know if you can come out and be a part of this fun and active diaper wrapping event.

In this presentation, Taylor will share how FYR Mindset Reps is addressing two critical populations in our community—teens and first responders—through a unique approach that combines mental health, physical fitness, and real-world life skills.

She will talk about the increasing mental health challenges facing today’s youth and the cumulative stress first responders carry from the job, and why traditional approaches alone are often not enough to create lasting change. She will explain how Mindset programs integrate mindset training, movement, and community to help individuals build resilience, confidence, and the ability to navigate stress in a healthy way.

Taylor will explain the impact they are seeing locally, how they are expanding access to underserved youth, and how programs like SHIFT provide first responders with structure, accountability, and practical tools to actually implement change in their lives.

We are going to have a presentation at Avery's Teahouse.  Avery's Teahouse is in the Loveland Yards and is part of a non-profit called Avery's Light.  The Teahouse provides inclusive employment opportunities for those experiencing developmental disabilities.   We will have lunch served in a style similar to a tea party while learning more about their mission.  I had a chance to visit there last week and had a great time!  I will provide more details on logistics.
